I don’t care about his question marks, too much value for the 31st pick in the draft & Eugene Monroe OT Jacksonville. You can make a case that he should have gone 2.
Worst Pick: Darrius Heyward-Bey WR Oakland. Howard Hughes doesn’t make smart decisions.
Best Trade: Pats trading #26 and a 5th for #41 and 2 3rd round picks.
Worst Trade: Browns trade the #5 pick for #17, #52 and 3 stiffs.

2nd round
Best Pick: Max Unger OL Seattle. Great move and they picked up another first.
Worst Pick: Michael Mitchell S Oakland(noticing a pattern here?)
Best Trade: Carolina trading away a 2010 first for Everette Brown and a 4th.
Worst Trade: Denver trading away a 2010 first for Alphonso Smith? Is Champ just done?

2nd day sleepers:
Rhett Bomar QB SHSU
Graham Harrell QB Texas Tech.
Chase Daniel QB Missouri
Curtis Painter QB Purdue.
Stephen McGee QB TAMU.
Hunter Cantwell QB Louisville.
Jason Boltus QB Hartwick
Shonn Greene RB Iowa
Rashad Jennings RB Liberty.
James Davis Rb Clemson Community College
Javon Ringer Rb Michigan State
Arian Foster RB Tenn
Gartrell Johnson RB Colorado State
Derrick Williams WR PSU
Kenny McKinley WR South Carolina
Jared Cook TE South Carolina
Chase Coffman TE Missouri
Travis Beckum TE Wisconsin
Shawn Nelson TE Southern Miss
Cornelius Ingram TE Florida
John Phillips TE UVA.
Carson Butler TE Michigan.
Anthony Hill TE NC State.
Kory Sperry TE Colorado State
Troy Kropog OT Tulane
Robert Brewster OT Ball State
Jamon Meredith OT South Carolina
Duke Robinson OG Oklahoma
Antoine Caldwell OC Alabama.
Louis Vasquez OG Texas Tech
Herman Johnson OG LSU
Kraig Urbik OG Wisconsin.
Jonathan Luigs OC Arkansas.
Michael Johnson DE G-Tech
Lawrence Sidbury DE Richmond
Matt Shaughnessy DE Wisconsin.
Jarron Gilbert DT/DE SJSU
Ricky Jean-Francois DT LSU
Dorell Scott DT Clemson Community College.
Chris Baker DT Hampton.
Tyrone McKenzie OLB South Florida
Zack Follett OLB California.
DeAndre Levy OLB Wisconsin
Nic Harris OLB/SS Oklahoma
Gerald McRath MLB Southern Miss
Dannell Ellerbe MLB UGA.
Jasper Brinkley MLB South Carolina.
Darry Beckwith ILB LSU.
Antonio Appleby ILB UVA.
Joshua Mauga MLB Nevada
Worrell Williams O/MLB California
Scott McKillop MLB Pittsburgh.
Macho Harris CB Va Tech
DJ Moore CB Vandy
Mike Mickens CB Cincy.
Kevin Barnes Cb UMD
Rashad Johnson S Alabama
Curtis Taylor S LSU
Chip Vaughn S Wake Forest
Michael Hamlin S Clemson Community College
David Bruton S Notre Dame
Courtney Greene S Rutgers.
Otis Wiley S Michigan State.

2009 NFL 7 Round Mock Draft

Matt Stafford UGA: he has the total package as a QB prospect, maybe slightly too much of a gunslinger.
2. Josh Freeman Qb K-State: cannon of an arm, productive on a bad team, mobile, big and strong. Inconsistent, and probably needs to sit for a year or 2.
3. Mark Sanchez QB USC. Polished, but could have done better with so much talent around him.
4. Rhett Bomar QB SHSU. All the tools you want in a QB, penalized for being caught doing what 90% of all athletes do. He should be the 2nd Qb taken frankly.
5. Graham Harrell QB Texas Tech. I’m not a fan of gimmick offense QB prospects, but Harrell can legitimately make every throw.
6. Chase Daniel QB Missouri. Short with not the greatest arm…Drew Brees?
7. Curtis Painter QB Purdue. Nothing special, but has the tools.
8. Stephen McGee QB TAMU. Needs to work on his footwork, but has the tools.
9. Hunter Cantwell QB Louisville. Very raw, but a lot of upside.
10. Jason Boltus QB Hartwick. Mobile with a cannon, good leader..played against no competition.

RBs
1. Knowshon Moreno Rb UGA. Doesn’t have ideal size or speed, but great vision/instincts.
2. Chris Wells RB OSU. Big, fast, great vision…how come he disappears a lot?
3. LeShaun McCoy RB Pittsburgh. Decent size/speed, was productive even against defenses stacked against him.
4. Shonn Greene RB Iowa. Will remind you a lot of Marion Barber.
5. Donald Brown Rb U-Conn. Slasher who’ll thrive in a WCO.
6. Rashad Jennings RB Liberty. Big, fast..but raw.
7. James Davis Rb Clemson Community College. Productive despite uneven Olines.
8. Javon Ringer Rb Michigan State. Someone will get a steal with him.
9. Arian Foster RB Tenn. Big and fast, but is probably a situational back until he gets his footwork down.
10. Gartrell Johnson RB Colorado State. Sleeper, but a bruising RB who can break away from the 2nd level of tacklers. .

WRs:
1. Michael Crabtree WR Texas Tech. Best of a bad bunch, he has some big question marks though.
2. Hakeem Nicks WR UNC. Big play WR with a solid body. He’ll remind you of Boldin.
3. Jeremy Maclin WR Missouri. Multi-dimensional threat, very small though.
4. Kenny Britt WR Rutgers. Good size/speed, bad offense he played in and he needs shaping.
5. Percy Harvin WR Florida. Meh. He needs to be more than just a slot guy/RB in the NFL.
6. Darrius Heyward-Bey WR UMD. Devin Thomas on line 2 for you.
7. Derrick Williams WR PSU. He plays much faster than his numbers suggest. He’s probably just a 2nd WR or a slot guy.
8. Kenny McKinley WR South Carolina. Slot guy, but has the tools to be good.
9. Brian Robiske WR OSU. Big, fast, bad hands.
10. Mohamed Massaquoi WR UGA. Very productive in the top conference, terrible blocker with inconsistent hands.

TEs:
1. Brandon Pettigrew TE OKSU. Really good prospect, good all around TE.
2. Jared Cook TE South Carolina. Struggles with blocking, but is a real threat in the passing game.
3. Chase Coffman TE Missouri. See Jared Cook.
4. Travis Beckum TE Wisconsin. Chris Cooley clone with injury problems.
5. Shawn Nelson TE Southern Miss. Oversized WR without the upside of Cook.
6. Cornelius Ingram TE Florida. Very raw, but the sky’s the limit.
7. John Phillips TE UVA. Proto-typical TE physically. Needs work on his technique.
8. Carson Butler TE Michigan. He’ll be overlooked because his production is non-existent, but he’s a real diamond in the rough.
9. Anthony Hill TE NC State. Not great at anything, not bad at anything. He’ll find a place in the NFL as a backup.
10. Kory Sperry TE Colorado State. More a big h-back, but will be a red zone threat if given the chances.

OTs:
1. Eugene Monroe OT UVA. Great prospect, no real weaknesses.
2. Michael Oher OT Ole Miss. Almost as good as Monroe. He’s a steal anytime after 4.
3. Jason Smith OT Baylor. Raw, but amazing upside.
4. Eben Britton OT Arizona. Might be a RT or RG, but he’s a nasty technician.
5. William Beatty OT U-Conn. Zone blocking prospect.
6. Andre Smith OT Alabama. All the talent and physical ability you could want, but zero motivation.
7. Phil Loadholt OT Oklahoma. A Coryell offense RT, or he might have to play OG. Big, bruiser type.
8. Troy Kropog OT Tulane. Another zone block scheme OT, could be a real steal.
9. Robert Brewster OT Ball State. Great pass blocker, needs to work on his run blocking.
10. Jamon Meredith OT South Carolina. Great measurables, couldn’t block an elderly woman in a wheelchair.

OGs and OCs.
1. Alex Mack OC Cali. Big, fast, mean, skilled, experienced. If he was an OT, he’d be a top 3 pick.
2. Max Unger OC/OG Oregon. Zone block scheme prospect who will start immediately.
3. Duke Robinson OG Oklahoma. Massive LG prospect who will find a niche.
4. Antoine Caldwell OC Alabama. Sleeper prospect who should be a steal.
5. Andy Levitre OG ORSU. Undersized OT who’ll move inside. Probably another zone block prospect.
6. Louis Vasquez OG Texas Tech. Massive LG who’ll thrive in a running offense.
7. Eric Wood OC Louisville. Another experienced OC who’ll find a role in the NFL.
8. Herman Johnson OG LSU. Another road grader who could be a body double for a Troll in a Harry Potter movie.
9. Kraig Urbik OG Wisconsin. Needs to find a run first offense to play in, otherwise he won’t see much time.
10. Jonathan Luigs OC Arkansas. Good vet OC, don’t ask him to face a good NT.

DEs:
1. Everette Brown DE FSU. Tweener, probably should go to a team who plays a 3-4 or where he can face RTs.
2. Michael Johnson DE G-Tech. Another tweener who should remind you of Derrick Burgess(and might replace him).
3. Robert Ayers DE Tennessee. A traditional 4-3 DE with some limitations. Alex Brown might be a good comparison.
4. Brian Orakpo DE Texas. Texas players always seem soft, Okapo’s done nothing to help that impression.
5. Aaron Maybin DE PSU. Cough cough hgh cough cough. He needs to go to a 3-4 team, or he’ll spend a lot of time on his back.
6. Paul Kruger DE Utah. Kambrion Wimbley 2.0
7. Tyson Jackson DE LSU. A 3-4 DE who’ll play the run well and not much else.
8. Lawrence Sidbury DE Richmond. A pass rusher perfect for a c-2 defense
9. Larry English DE Northern Illinois. An overrated version of Lawrence Sidbury lol
10. Matt Shaughnessy DE Wisconsin. Very raw prospect, but has the tools and intangibles.

DTs
1. BJ Raji NT BC. The best NT prospect to come out in a long time.
2. Peria Jerry DT Ole Miss. Older, but great prospect.
3. Fili Moala DT USC. Very underrated, might be a 3-4 DE or a cover-2 DT.
4. Evander Hood DT Missouri. Undersized, but will be a good prospect if not asked to anchor a Dline.
5. Sen’Derrick Marks DT Auburn. Probably more an NT, but solid prospect in the 50s.
6. Jarron Gilbert DT/DE SJSU. Getting overhyped, but he has a lot of potential.
7. Ricky Jean-Francois DT LSU. High risk prospect, but worth a 4th round flyer.
8. Ron Brace DT BC. Good physical skills, might have been a product of playing with Raji. He’ll go a round too high at least.
9. Dorell Scott DT Clemson Community College. Good size/speed, good pass rush skills, struggles with getting leverage.
10. Chris Baker DT Hampton. Raw small school prospect, probably good as a C-2 DT

OLBs
1. Aaron Curry OLB Wake Forest. Great physical tools, very polished, can play just about anywhere. Franchise level defender.
2. Clay Matthews OLB USC. A 3-4 rush LB who might be able to play SAM. Good skills and a very hard worker—maybe the hardest worker in the draft.
3. Clint Sintim OLB UVA. Another 3-4 rush Lb who might be able to play SAM. Good tools, but can’t carry a LB corps.
4. Brian Cushing OLB USC. Not great at anything, not bad at anything. Probably a 3-4 ILB when its all said and done.
5. Connor Barwin OLB. Yet another 3-4 rush lb, he might be more a DE in a 4-3.
6. Cody Brown OLB U-Conn. A good SAM 4-3 prospect. Needs work on coverage.
7. Tyrone McKenzie OLB South Florida. Undersized SAM/oversized Will. Tackling machine.
8. Zack Follett OLB California. Slightly less physical and slightly more polished version of McKenzie.
9. DeAndre Levy OLB Wisconsin. A burner at the Will. Needs technique work.
10. Nic Harris OLB/SS Oklahoma. A tweener who’ll probably get drafted by Gregg Williams.

I/MLB
1. Rey Maualuga ILB USC. A franchise LB to build around. Can play just about anywhere.
2. Gerald McRath MLB Southern Miss. Tackling machine.
3. James Laurinaitis OSU. Protect him with DTs or he’s useless.
4. Dannell Ellerbe MLB UGA. Character concerns, but talented.
5. Jasper Brinkley MLB South Carolina. Massive MLB who is surprisingly quick. Injury concerns cost him.
6. Darry Beckwith ILB LSU. Undersized, but quick. Probably a 3-4 ILB more than a 4-3 MLB.
7. Antonio Appleby ILB UVA. He’ll have to be a 3-4 ILB, but you’ll have the develop him.
8. Joshua Mauga MLB Nevada. Another diamond the rough, teach him to avoid blocks and you have another London Fletcher.
9. Worrell Williams O/MLB California. He can’t shed blockers, but protect him with a couple big Dts and he’ll do some damage.
10. Scott McKillop MLB Pittsburgh. Another tackling machine who needs to work on his coverage.

CBs
1. Vontae Davis CB Illinois. He’ll be a stud or he’ll be a total bust, he won’t be some okay starter. He has the tools, but has some work ethic issues.
2. Darius Butler Cb U-Conn. Fluid, good size, will struggle with bigger WRs.
3. Macho Harris CB Va Tech. Perfect for a C-2 scheme.
4. Alphonso Smith CB Wake. Ballhawk, but way too aggressive.
5. Sean Smith Cb Utah. Maybe a FS/CB tweener, he has great size/quickness.
6. Malcolm Jenkins CB/FS OSU. Another tweener, he has good size and skills, but he’s not that fast and disappears in big games.
7. DJ Moore CB Vandy. A lower rent version of Alphonso Smith.
8. Sherrod Martin CB Troy. Good combo of size/speed, but needs development.
9. Mike Mickens CB Cincy. Decent size/speed, struggled against good competition.
10. Kevin Barnes Cb UMD. Another good size/speed guy who needs development.

Safeties:
1. William Moore S Missouri. Physical freak who needs work on the intangibles.
2. Patrick Chung S Oregon. The Anti-William Moore: great intangibles, not great physically.
3. Rashad Johnson S Alabama. Probably no upside, but an extremely smart/cagey safety who can start now.
4. Louis Delmas S Western Michigan. Great skills, questions about his competition and if he’s NFL ready.
5. Curtis Taylor S LSU. Very raw, but has all the tools.
6. Chip Vaughn S Wake Forest. An in-the-box SS probably best for a cover-1/46 system, but he’ll be very effective in that role.
7. Michael Hamlin S Clemson Community College. Another in-the-box SS who’ll struggle in coverage.
8. David Bruton S Notre Dame. Amazing physical tools, but real bad intangibles.
9. Courtney Greene S Rutgers. Very experienced/smart, but doesn’t have ball skills.
10. Otis Wiley S Michigan State. Good skills/intangibles, cannot stay healthy.

Akh's 6th mock

1-Detroit Lions: Matt Stafford QB UGA.
2-St. Louis Rams: Eugene Monroe OT UVA
3-Kansas City Chiefs: Aaron Curry LB Wake
4-Seattle Seahawks: Jason Smith OT Baylor
5-Cleveland Browns: Rey Maualuga LB USC
6-Cincinnati Bengals: Michael Oher OT Ole Miss
7-Oakland Raiders: Michael Johnson DE/OLB Ga. With Cassell effectively off the market and Warner, the Lions don’t have much of a choice any more.

2-St. Louis Rams: Michael Oher OT Ole Miss. The new leadership of the Rams has a mandate to gut that team. With Pace and Barron on their way out, Oher is the logical pick.

3-Kansas City Chiefs: Michael Crabtree WR Texas Tech. With Haley as coach, he’ll try to recreate the WR corps he had in Arizona. Bowe is a good start, but Crabtree makes them deadly.

4-Seattle Seahawks: Chris Wells RB Ohio State. Andre Smith could be tempting to them, but Mora likes to run the ball.

5-Cleveland Browns: Aaron Curry LB Wake. The Browns’ Lbs are a wasteland.

6-Cincinnati Bengals: Andre Smith OT Alabama. With Levi Jones struggling and Stacy Andrews hurt, this pick is a no-brainer.

7-Oakland Raiders: Brian Orakpo DE Texas. They should take Monroe, but what team are we talking about here?

8-Jacksonville Jaguars: Eugene Monroe OT UVA. They can make good on their promise to dump troublemakers like Khalif Barnes now.

9-Green Bay Packers: Rey Maualuga LB USC. Even moving Kampman to OLB, they need help at LB. A trade here is possible.

10-San Francisco 49ers: Everette Brown OLB/DE FSU. They just dumped Tully Banta-Cain and Lawson sucks.

11-Buffalo Bills: Larry English DE Northern Illinois. He’s shooting up the charts, and the Bills could use the pass rush help.

12-Denver Broncos: BJ Raji NT BC. You can’t run the 3-4 without a good NT. Raji will immediately improve their defense.

13-New York Jets(projected trade with Washington Redskins, Washington gets pick 17 and their 4th round pick back from the Jets along with the jets’ 4th rounder): Mark Sanchez QB USC. They can’t take the chance that the Texans take Sanchez or someone like the Bears deal up.

14-New Orleans Saints: Knowshon Moreno RB UGA. He’s probably not tough enough to survive in the NFL, but splitting time between him and Bush would be great for both.

15-Atlanta Falcons(projected trade with the Houston Texans, Houston gets pick #24, CB David Irons and their 3rd round pick): Peria Jerry DT Ole Miss. Atlanta is so desperate for DT help that they’re considering moving Jamaal Anderson inside. The Texans are interested in Duke Robinson, but can drop back to pick him up.

16-San Diego Chargers: Jason Smith OT Baylor. A project, but they need help on the Oline, especially with Goff leaving.

17-Washington Redskins(from New York Jets): Eben Britton OT Arizona. Big nasty OT who helps lock down the RT position for the skins.

18-Chicago Bears: Jeremy Maclin WR Missouri. Playmaker for a team that needs them.

19-Tampa Bay Buccaneers: Percy Harvin WR Florida. They also need playmakers, Bryant is a good player, but they need a potential gamechanger.

20-Detroit Lions(from Dallas Cowboys): William Beatty OT U-Conn. They need a LT badly or Stafford will be done soon.

21-Philadelphia Eagles: Hakeem Nicks WR UNC. Assuming they don’t sign Houz or trade for Boldin.

22-Minnesota Vikings: Vontae Davis CB Illinois. Winfield had a good year, but is getting old. Griffin is just bad.

23-Indianapolis Colts(projected trade with New England Patriots, Pats get Colts’ 3rd round pick and 2010 1st round pick): James Laurinaitis ILB Ohio State. The Colts like Brackett, but they won’t be able to afford to keep the LB corps together. Laurainaits is a cheap option for them to put in the mix.

24-Houston Texans(from Atlanta Falcons): Duke Robinson OG Oklahoma. The Texans deal down and still get the guy they want.

25-Miami Dolphins: Alex Mack OC California. Parcells doesn’t think Satale is tough enough for him, Mack is.

26-Baltimore Ravens: Michael Johnson DE Ga Tech. The dropper in the first round stops at a team that could use a DE/LB tweener to replace Suggs or Scott.

27-Indianapolis Colts: Malcolm Jenkins CB Ohio State. They like Marlin Jackson and Hayden, but Jackson can’t stay healthy and Hayden may bolt.

28-Philadelphia Eagles(from Carolina): Phil Loadholt OT Oklahoma. A project, but they need the help badly.

29-New York Giants: Darrius Heyward-Bey WR Umd. Devin Thomas will drop him in the draft.

30-Tennessee Titans: Brandon Pettigrew TE Oklahoma State. Scaife is a UFA, Crumpler wasn’t very consistent. Pettigrew gives them a real weapon at TE.

31-Arizona Cardinals: LeShon McCoy Rb Pittsburgh. Hightower is a situational back, James wants out.

32-New England Patriots(projected trade with Pittsburgh Steelers, Pittsburgh gets San Diego’s 2nd rounder and New England’s natural 2nd): Paul Kruger DE/OLB Utah. He’s a major project, but they can afford to sit him for awhile behind Vrabel.

The 10 moves that have to happen

The ten moves that have to happen this offseason:
1-Dallas Cowboys cut Terrell Owens. I don’t care how talented he is, I don’t care how much he frees up Witten and Roy Williams…the man is locker room ebola, and is making an uneasy locker room into an insane asylum.

2-Detroit trades picks #20 and their 3rd round pick to New England for Matt Cassel. Detroit might really like the idea of Matt Stafford, but Cassel+Michael Oher(or Andre Smith) would be a much better idea. Speaking of New England…

3-New England sends the #20 pick and Detroit’s 3rd round to San Diego for Ladanian Tomlinson. Laurence Maroney, Sammy Morris, et al just aren’t enough for that offense. And even though the Pats are a passing offense, they do like to use the run, especially later in the season. LDT needs a change of scenery badly, and New England could get him a ring. This frees up cash for San Diego to pay Darren Sproles.

4-Kansas City trades Derrick Johnson and their 2nd round pick to Arizona for Matt Leinart. Its very doubtful that the Cards will allow Warner to bolt, so Leinart has to be moved. Minny, KC, Detroit and the Jets will be bidders for Leinart. Johnson needs a change of scenary and the Cards need LB help with Dansby a UFA.

5-Washington Redskins trade Shawn Springs and Fred Davis to the Rams for Alex Barron. The Redskins need young talent at OT, the Rams need a young TE badly and veteran CB help. Barron might have some issues, but Joe Bugel should be able to mold him into something.

6-Philadelphia trades Carolina’s first round pick and Omar Gaither to Cincy for Chad Johnson. If just for the entertainment value that McNabb and Ocho Cinco would bring. For Cincy, its addition via subtraction, and they get a 1st to use on an Olineman. For Philly they get a real weapon at WR for McNabb to use.

7-Green Bay signs Terrell Suggs, Denver signs Bart Scott. Both of these teams are switching to the 3-4 and both of them need help badly at LB. Suggs makes a lot of sense for GB, since he can provide Kampman with help at the pass rush. Scott, no matter how overrated he is, helps out a Denver LB corps who couldn’t cover a TE with his shoelaces tied together.

8-Indianapolis Colts trade Marvin Harrison to Seattle for their 2nd round pick. Harrison probably is a hall of fame WR, but he’s become a major liability both on and off the field. With Anthony Gonzalez emerging as a real threat at WR, he’s expendable. The Seahawks need someone at WR who can catch the ball, and getting Harrison for their 2nd allows them to use their top 5 pick on Chris Wells or Knowshon Moreno.

9-Kellen Winslow II to Tampa for Tampa’s 2nd round pick and Michael Clayton. Winslow has worn out his welcome in Cleveland, and Tampa has enough cap room to take a chance on him(and needs the offensive presence he can bring). Don’t be shocked if Braylon Edwards is moved as well(obvious suitors would be Giants, Jets, Detroit, Minny, Chicago and Tennessee).

10-New England sends their 2 2nd round picks to Oakland for Nnamdi Asomugha. Sooner or later, Oakland won’t be able to afford to constantly be exclusively tagging Asomugha. New England could use the CB help and have enough high picks to make it happen.

Akh's first official mock

1-Detroit Lions : Matt Stafford QB UGA. I have a suspicions that Schwartz will want a vet QB like Cassel or Leinart, and use this pick elsewhere, but status quo: it’ll be Stafford.

2-St. Louis Rams: Michael Oher OT Ole Miss. Pace is old, Barron needs a change of scenary.

3-Kansas City Chiefs: Aaron Curry LB Wake Forest. I don’t buy the Sanchez rumors, especially with Pioli in charge. Curry is a franchise caliber LB that they can build around. Smart, team player—Pioli’s dream LB.

4-Seattle Seahawks: Chris Wells RB Ohio State. Crabtree is a possibility also, but Mora has talked about totally re-doing their Rb situation around a feature back. I’m not a big fan of Wells, but he’s a great fit for them.

5-Cleveland Browns: Rey Maualuga LB USC. Mangini/Ryan needs Lbs badly who can make plays, this is good value even for the top 5.

6-Cincinnati Bengals: Andre Smith OT Alabama. Levi Jones is at the end of the road, Stacy Andrews is a UFA and had major knee surgery.

7-Oakland Raiders: Brian Orakpo DE Texas. The Raiders look like they’ll dump Derrick Burgess, and don’t have much of a pass rush anyways. This pick really makes no logical sense, but it is the Raiders.

8-Jacksonville Jaguars: Michael Crabtree WR Texas Tech. The Jags’ rep knocks down Chris Berman and 2 NFL interns on their way to the podium for this pick.

9-Green Bay Packers: Eugene Monroe OT UVA. Tauscher is badly hurt, and aging. Clifton is getting up there in years, Monroe can let the Pack let Tauscher leave and put that money towards the defense.

10-San Francisco 49ers: BJ Raji NT BC. They need offensive help, but they can’t pass on an elite NT prospect that could make Willis-somehow-an even better ILB.

11-Buffalo Bills: Mark Sanchez QB USC. Trent Edwards and Losman aren’t the answers. They have the offensive supporting cast, but they need a strong armed Qb to get Evans involved. This is high for Sanchez, but a logical pick.

12-Denver Broncos: Vontae Davis CB Illinois. Jenkins(and all the OSU defenders smell like draft day droppers), the Broncos need Lb help badly, but with no one worthy of a pick, replacing Champ/Bly is the next best thing.

13-Washington Redskins: Peria Jerry DT Ole Miss. Don’t be surprised if the Skins deal out of this pick though. Jerry would be the best pick since they need DT help badly. If the skins can’t deal out, don’t be surprised if they reach for a QB like Josh Freeman.

14-New Orleans Saints: William Moore S Missouri. Gregg Williams loves him some safeties.

15-Houston Texans: Patrick Chung S Oregon. They really wanted Moore, but they’ll be happy to get Chung.

16-San Diego Chargers: Knowshon Moreno RB UGA. Sproles is electric, but can’t take the pounding. Moreno might supplant him as their every down back.

17-New York Jets: Josh Freeman QB KSU. Favre will be dealt or cut, and Clemens isn’t the answer. Freeman could be 09’s Joe Flacco.

18-Chicago Bears: Jeremy Maclin WR Missouri. Not really the traditional X or Y WR they need, but Maclin can contribute in the slot.

19-Tampa Bay Buccaneers: LeSean McCoy Rb Pittsburgh. Their new OC believes in a steady run attack, and they don’t have that currently.
20-Detroit Lions(from Dallas Cowboys): Jason Smith OT Baylor. He’s a project, but he’s better than what they have at OT.

21-Philadelphia Eagles: William Beatty OT UConn. Philly will talk themselves out of making this pick I’m sure.

22-Minnesota Vikings: Percy Harvin WR Florida. This pick might be trade bait for a QB, but if they keep it, they need an offensive weapon.

23-New England Patriots: Everette Brown DE/OLB FSU. They need pass rushers with Vrabel’s age. This pick could be going to Oakland for Asomugha.

24-Atlanta Falcons: Brandon Pettigrew TE Okla State. Ryan needs more weapons, especially in the red zone(where they had to use gimmicks to score too often).

25-Miami Dolphins: James Laurinaitis LB OSU. This is probably high for him, but with Crowder a UFA, they can let him bolt.

26-Baltimore Ravens: Clint Sintim LB UVA. Its going to be hard for them to keep Lewis, Suggs and Scott. Sintim allows them to bring Johnson in at ILB and let Suggs bolt.

27-Indianapolis Colts: Brian Cushing LB USC. Proto-typical Cover-2 Lb.

28-Philadelphia Eagles(from Carolina): Duke Robinson OG Oklahoma. Shawn Andrews is a major headcase, they can deal him away now.

29-New York Giants: Kenny Britt WR Rutgers. Big and fast, Britt can jump up the draft quickly.

30-Tennessee Titans: Darius Heyward-Bey WR UMD. He needs work on his technique, but has a lot of potential.

31-Arizona Cardinals: Alex Mack OC California. They need oline help badly, especially if they keep Warner.

32-Pittsburgh Steelers: Eben Britton OT Arizona. Their OTs struggles all year long, Britton is probably a RT, but has a lot of talent.

Over/under rated

Underrated:
Eugene Monroe OT Virginia: I like him as an NFL prospect more than D’Brickashaw Ferguson.
Rey Maualuga ILB USC: Whomever gets him, gets a steal.
William Moore S Missouri: Safeties who make plays usually turn out to be good pros, no matter their measurables.
Brandon Pettigrew TE Oklahoma St: Everything you look for in an NFL TE.
Clint Sintim OLB Virginia: disclaimer-don’t draft him if you don’t play a 3-4.
Rashad Johnson S Alabama: If you get him in the 2nd round, you’ve committed grand larceny. Smart player with physical tools.
Derrick Williams WR Penn St: He didn’t produce up to his hype, but he has the tools to be a great 2nd WR/returner.
Darryl Beckwith LB L.S.U: Probably a good fit for a cover-2 system.
Mike Mickens CB Cincinnati: Good size/speed and productive.
Victor Harris CB Virginia Tech: A bump and run playmaker in a league where that will take you far. Very underrated.
Javon Ringer RB Michigan St: He has a lot of carries on him, but he’s productive with good tools.
Patrick Chung S Oregon: He might be the best safety in the draft, but is rated in the 2nd currently.
Dannell Ellerbe LB Georgia: If healthy, he’s a major steal.
Mohamed Massaquoi WR Georgia: I watch a lot of SEC football, and it feels like Massaquoi did his PHD at UGA he was there so long. If he runs a good 40 time, he should get high 2nd consideration.
Herman Johnson OG L.S.U: MASSIVE OG who’s very underrated as a 2nd rounder.
Brian Robiskie WR Ohio St: He didn’t have a great senior year, but he seems like a player who’ll rise to the occasion in the NFL.
Brandon Tate WR North Carolina: Productive big play WR at UNC, but struggled as a senior due to injury and a young QB.
Cullen Harper QB Clemson: He had a terrible senior year, but has obvious skills. He might be a pure developmental prospect, but he has the tools.
Asher Allen CB Georgia: undersized, but played “big” and played well in the toughest conference in college ball.
Donald Brown RB Connecticut: Good size/speed combo, and productive.
Emanuel Cook S South Carolina: Smaller than you would like in a safety, but is a hitter and makes plays. Someone will find a productive role for him.
Michael Crabtree WR Texas Tech: Has more upside than Calvin Johnson.
Shonn Greene RB Iowa: Consistently productive despite an offense in flux around him.
Ricky Jean-Francois DT L.S.U: Boom/bust poster boy. But he’s too talented to ignore.
Brandon LaFell WR L.S.U: Great size/speed, and was productive despite crappy Qb play..why exactly is he not a first rounder?
Sen'Derrick Marks DT Auburn: Great physical tools. Is a steal after the first half of the first round.

Overrated:
Malcolm Jenkins CB Ohio St.: Has good physical tools and technique, but disappears in big games or against good WRs. Too many bad bowl performances imo.
Mark Sanchez QB USC: Big arm, but can’t read defenses well and character concerns. I don’t have him as a first rounder now.
Brian Orakpo DE Texas: I’m not a big fan of Texas players period(too soft), but Orakpo looks too small for the NFL. Alex Boone pushed him around in the Fiesta bowl, and Boone’s nothing special.
Jason Smith OT Baylor: Very athletic, but extremely raw as a LT.
James Laurinaitis ILB Ohio St: Good, but will need support in the NFL(as in two big DTs in front of him). Not a top 10 or 15 pick imo.
Aaron Maybin DE Penn St: There’s not too many 225-235 DEs in the NFL for good reason.
Tyson Jackson DE L.S.U. Its never good when a DE’s scouting report starts with “Can’t rush the passer….”
Duke Robinson OG Oklahoma: Big and physical, but NFL defenses will love his bad footwork.
Alphonso Smith CB Wake Forest: Ballhawk, but tiny.
Chase Coffman TE Missouri: Great pass catcher, can’t block a shadow. Someone will reach on him.
Jamon Meredith OT South Carolina: Great measurables, couldn’t block an elderly woman in a wheelchair.
Louis Murphy WR Florida: Amazing measurables, so why didn’t he dominate in college again?
James Davis RB Clemson: Not fast or powerful, and doesn't have good vision.
Juaquin Iglesias WR Oklahoma: Unless he can show better route running, he’s overpriced as a low first/high second.
D.J. Moore CB Vanderbilt: Undersized, and benefited from a ferocious pass rush.
Captain Munnerlyn CB South Carolina: See DJ Moore.
Gerald McRath LB Southern Miss: Playmaker, but at 220 lbs, where does he play?
Marcus Freeman OLB Ohio St: Meh. He didn’t do much well, even with Laurinaitis playing next to him.
Clay Matthews OLB USC: A worker who’ll have to make it in a 3-4, but his upside doesn’t support his hype.
Ron Brace DT Boston College: Big NT prospect, but might have benefited from being with Raji.
Trevor Canfield OG Cincinnati: some character issues, but has some talent.
Alex Boone OT Ohio St: Always has been extremely overrated. He’s not fast/quick enough for OT in the NFL.
Cedric Dockery OG Texas: He ain’t even his brother Derrick as a player.
Nate Davis QB Ball St: He needs to sit and learn for years, he’s not close to being NFL ready.
Josh Freeman QB Kansas St: Started hot, cooled down quickly and probably is a project.
Brian Hartline WR Ohio St: Was he hurting for cash or something? There’s zero reason for him to enter the draft.
Percy Harvin WR Florida: He makes plays, but he’s not an NFL Rb or WR. First round is absurd for him, unless he shows he can play WR.

Sleepers:
Peria Jerry DT Ole Miss: It’s a war crime if he doesn’t go in the top 12.
Alex Mack C California: One of the best center prospects in years.
Max Unger C Oregon: Great prospect for a zone blocking scheme.
Larry English DE Northern Illinois: Some smart team is going to draft him for the 3-4 rush LB position.
Donald Washington CB Ohio St: Development prospect with great physical gifts. Needs A LOT of work on being a Cb though.
Hakeem Nicks WR North Carolina: Big play WR sleeper. Big bowl game gets him in the 2nd or 3rd round, great combine puts him in the first.
Louis Delmas S Western Michigan: Too small for FS, he might have a future as a developmental CB.
Travis Beckum TE Wisconsin: He’ll remind you a lot of Chris Cooley, but he can’t stay healthy.
Cody Brown DE Connecticut: He’ll have a role as a pass rusher in the NFL, but don’t expect a starter.
Troy Kropog OT Tulane: Good zone blocking LT prospect.
Rhett Bomar QB Sam Houston St: I don’t buy that taking money from boosters is a “character issue” since 99% of players do it. Bomar showed he can play in a big time program and has all the tools you want in a QB.
Matt Shaughnessy DE Wisconsin: Sleeper pass rush specialist. If he’s there on the second day, TAKE HIM!
Jasper Brinkley ILB South Carolina: 270-280 MLB who can run and makes big plays. Probably would be great in a 3-4 system. Think Levon Kirkland.
James Casey TE Rice: Very young(true sophomore), but looks like a great Hback.
P.J. Hill RB Wisconsin: Traditional power back who needs a big combine to get drafted. Could be good in a RB committee.
Paul Kruger DE Utah: Pass rusher with great physical tools.

Rated about right:
Aaron Curry OLB Wake Forest: I’m a big fan of Curry, and he’s a playmaker at the OLB spot or could be an amazing 3-4 ILB.
Michael Oher OT Ole Miss: Chris Samuels 2.0
Jeremy Maclin WR Missouri: If you want a Percy Harvin type playmaker, but want someone who can play WR, draft Maclin.
B.J. Raji DT Boston College: Can provide a pass rush from the DT spot, but I like Peria Jerry more.
Brian Cushing OLB USC: Don’t expect a lot(or any) sacks, but he’ll do everything else well.
Knowshon Moreno RB Georgia: Just makes plays. Top half of the first round sounds right.
Michael Johnson DE Georgia Tech: The anti-Cushing, he’ll rush the passer well, but do nothing else well.
Vontae Davis CB Illinois: What you look for in a CB prospect: good speed/size and playmaking ability.
Andre Smith OT Alabama: Franchise left tackle.
Phil Loadholt OT Oklahoma: Massive OT who could be a great RT or LG.
Chris Wells RB Ohio St: Very talented Rb with amazing physical gifts, so why isn’t he dominating opposing defenses more? And he needs to show he can be a pass catcher.
Evander Hood DT Missouri: He’s a worker, but his lack of great physical tools will hurt him.
Matthew Stafford QB Georgia: Big arm, mobile, big ego.
Darius Butler CB Connecticut: Another undersized ballhawk CB.
Eric Wood OC Louisville: Not very talented, but steady and durable.
LeSean McCoy RB Pittsburgh: Carried Pittsburgh by himself, whomever drafts him will get themselves a quality back.
Fili Moala DT USC: A lot like Shaun Cody, but he’ll be a decent 2nd round pick.
Jonathan Luigs C Arkansas: Big, nasty OC, unfortunately he’s behind Unger/Mack.
William Beatty OT Connecticut: Needs to put some muscle on, but a good prospect.
Michael Hamlin S Clemson: Big physical Strong Safety who makes plays. Questionable speed.
Jonathan Casillas OLB Wisconsin: Undersized OLB with good speed.
Kenny Britt WR Rutgers: Big, rangy WR who should be a first day pick.
Eben Britton OT Arizona: Probably a RT in the NFL, mid first seems right for him right now.
Everette Brown DE Florida St: Undersized, but the latest in a long line of FSU pass rushers.
Jared Cook TE South Carolina: Needs to put on 20 lbs, but he’s perfect for a WCO.
Darrius Heyward-Bey WR Maryland: Very raw, but very talented. Mid first seems right.

Akh's Post regular season mock

1-Detroit Lions: Michael Oher OT Ole Miss. The Lions need a lot of things, a stud LT being #1 on the list.
2-St. Louis Rams: Andre Smith OT Bama. Pace is at the end of the line, Barron is a bust. This offense can move if Bulger/Jackson get protection.
3-Kansas City Chiefs: Matt Stafford Qb Georgia. Thigpen is interesting, but they need a real QB prospect.
4-Seattle Seahawks: Michael Crabtree WR Texas Tech. Decent team, but nothing at WR.
5-Cleveland Browns: Aaron Curry LB Wake. Playmaker who will immediately improve a soft Browns’ defense.
6-Cincinnati Bengals: Eugene Monroe OT UVA. Jones looks done, Andrews is lazy(and a UFA).
7-Oakland Raiders: Malcolm Jenkins Cb OSU. This is assuming the Raiders finally grant Asomugha his wish and deal him elsewhere(Pats, Saints, Boys and Packers seem to be logical bidders).
8-Jacksonville Jaguars: Taylor Mays S USC. Reggie Nelson is awful, Mays legitimizes their secondary.
9-Green Bay Packers: Michael Johnson DE Georgia Tech. Kampman’s alone on an island in the Green Bay Pass rush.
10-San Francisco 49ers: Jason Smith OT Baylor. Jennings is a waste at OT, Staley needs help on that line.
11-Buffalo Bills: Brian Orakpo DE Texas. They’ll regret this pick.
12-Denver Broncos: Rey Maualuga LB USC. This entire defense needs to be flushed.
13-Washington Redskins: Tim Tebow Qb Florida. Vinny Cerrato doesn’t really have a brain stem.
14-New Orleans Saints: Chris Wells RB OSU. Yes, they need defensive help, but they can’t pass on the perfect compliment back to Bush.
15-Houston Texans: Vontae Davis CB Illinois. They need defensive help badly.
16-San Diego Chargers: James Laurinaitis ILB OSU. Drops a bit, but a great pick up for a porous defense.
17-New York Jets: Brandon Spikes ILB Florida. They really wanted Tebow, but get a playmaker for their defense instead.
18-Chicago Bears: Darrius Heyward-Bey WR Umd. Devin Hester showed some flashes, but they need help badly at WR-no matter who their QB ends up being.
19-Tampa Bay Buccaneers: Knowshon Moreno RB UGA. Cadillac looks really slow now, and their offense collapsed when Dunn/Graham became their main backs.
20-Detroit Lions(from Dallas Cowboys): LeSean McCoy RB Pittsburgh. They may reach for a Qb here, but no one between here and their 2nd round pick will jump on Josh Freeman or Graham Harrell.
21-Arizona Cardinals: Clint Sintim OLB/DE UVA. This is assuming they let Dansby walk so that they can keep Warner. They really didn’t replace Calvin Pace either.
22-Philadelphia Eagles: Ciron Black OT LSU. Runyan and Thomas are FAs and very old.
23-Minnesota Vikings: William Moore S Missouri. Playmaker who replaces one of their 2 old safeties.
24-New England Patriots: DJ Moore CB Vandy. Solid prospect who doesn’t have many flaws, but just isn’t spectacular.
25-Atlanta Falcons: Brian Cushing LB USC. Drops a bit, but with Boley and Brookings on their way out of the ATL, they need LB help.
26-Miami Dolphins: Jeremy Macklin WR Missouri. Perfect for the motion-gimmicky offense they run.
27-Baltimore Ravens: Sean Witherspoon LB Missouri. With Lewis, Suggs and Scott all UFAs, they’ll need to replace one of them. They could use the young legs anyways.
28-Indianapolis Colts: Peria Jerry DT Ole Miss. Good cover-2 DT prospect.
29-Pittsburgh Steelers: Eben Britton OT Arizona. More a RT, but the Steelers need the help at OT.
30-New York Giants: Percy Harvin WR Florida. Plax is going to jail, Toomer is probably gone. Hixon and Smith aren’t enough at WR.
31-Philadelphia Eagles(from Carolina Panthers): Patrick Chung S Oregon. How much does Dawkins really have left in him?
32-Tennessee Titans: Juaquin Iglesias Wr Oklahoma. High upside, but raw prospect. However, when your best WR is Justin Gage, beggers can’t be choosers.

Very Early Akh Mock

1-Detroit Lions: Michael Oher OT Ole Miss. Stafford, Tebow or Mccoy are possibilities if they declare, but with a 2nd 1st round pick and high second, they can pick up a QB later on. They can’t pass on a chance to get the next Chris Samuels.

2-Cincinnati Bengals: Chris Wells RB Ohio State. They need help in a lot of places, but a consistent running game is needed badly. They can dangle Chad Johnson as bait for help elsewhere.

3-Kansas City Chiefs: Matt Stafford QB UGA. Even if Tebow or McCoy declare(and I think both will), Stafford should jump ahead of them as a more traditional style QB.

4-Seattle Seahawks: Tim Tebow QB Florida. He might need to sit for a year or two, but Hasselback has enough left to allow them to do that.

5-St Louis Rams: Taylor Mays FS USC. Sean Taylor 2.0.

6-Oakland Raiders: Michael Crabtree WR Texas Tech. Crabtree is on the fence whether or not to declare, I have a feeling that he won’t be able to pass on the millions.

7-Cleveland Browns: Michael Johnson DE/LB Georgia Tech. Wimbley is fast, but can’t pass rush to save his life. Johnson will be a good contributor at 3-4 Elephant or 4-3 DE, depending on who the next coach is.

8-Jacksonville Jaguars: Andre Smith OT Alabama. That team has tuned out Del Rio, but their Oline problems are the root cause of their problems.

9-San Francisco 49ers: Colt McCoy QB Texas. He’d better hope Martz is fired.

10-San Diego Chargers: James Laurinatis ILB Ohio State. They need Lb help, even with Merriman coming back in 09.

11-Green Bay Packers: Malcolm Jenkins CB Ohio State. Solid performer, he’ll immediately improve their secondary.

12-Houston Texans: Brian Orakpo DE Texas. I’m not as big on him as everyone else is, and Texas players are usually very soft. They’re just not getting any production on the other side of Mario Williams.

13-Buffalo Bills: Josh Freeman Qb K-State. Neither Edwards or Losman looks like the future. Freeman is fairly obscure, but he’s one of the few bright spots on a bad K-State team.

14-Chicago Bears: Darrius Heyward-Bey WR UMD. Lloyd and Hester has some speed, but they aren’t long term answers at WR.

15-New Orleans Saints: LeSean McCoy Rb Pittsburgh(Knowshon Moreno stays in Athens). Bush gets sprained too much from dating Kim Kardasian and they need a real grinder back.

16-Philadelphia Eagles: Eugene Monroe OT UVA. Tra Thomas and Runyan are mostly dust now

17-Arizona Cardinals: Rey Maualaga ILB USC. With Dansby looking like he’s bolting, they need LB help.

18-Denver Broncos: Brian Cushing OLB USC. Not the blitzer they could use, but a solid run/pass coverage OLB.

19-Miami Dolphins: William Moore S Missouri. A turnover hawk, he brings athleticism to the Phins’ defensive backfield.

20-Minnesota Vikings: Brandon Pettigrew TE Oklahoma State. I have a feeling that they’ll go the FA/trade route for a QB(McNabb? Warner? Leinart?)-Pettigrew needs to work on his blocking, but should be a dangerous threat in the red zone.

21-New England Patriots: Mike Mickens CB Cincy. Ballhawk who is a small school worker.

22-Washington Redskins: Aaron Curry OLB Wake. The Skins have a keeper in Rocky McIntosh, but Marcus Washington and HB Blades killed them all year by providing literally nothing at the SLB. Curry might need to work on his blitz moves, but he’s a monster coverage LB.

23-Atlanta Falcons: Kam Chancellor S Va Tech. Lawyer Milloy is STILL in the NFL?

24-Baltimore Ravens: Darryl Beckworth LB LSU. Bart Scott, Ray Lewis and Suggs are all UFAs. They can’t keep all of them, probably not even 2 of them.

25-Detroit Lions(for Roy Williams): Mark Sanchez QB USC. Sanchez could stay, but if he’s rated as a 1st, I bet he’ll declare.

26-Indianapolis Colts: Sen’Derrick Marks DT Auburn. Proto-typical Cover-2 DT.

27-New York Jets: Victor Harris CB Va Tech. A physical worker of a CB whom Mangini will love. This pick might be going to Green Bay though.

28-Philadelphia Eagles(from Carolina): Arian Foster Rb Tennessee. This pick could be going to Arizona for Anquan Boldin, but if they keep it, Foster would be a great compliment to Westbrook.

29-Pittsburgh Steelers: Ciron Black OT LSU. Their Oline is very inconsistent., Starks and Smith are ugly to watch

30-Tampa Bay Buccaneers: Chase Coffman TE Missouri. I don’t think that their defense will change that much with Monty Kiffin bolting for Knoxville, they need a TE threat though, Coffman can catch and has good size.

31-New York Giants: Juaquin Iglesias WR Oklahoma. Toomer and Plax are both probably gone after the season, I just don’t buy that going with Hixon/Smith is a bright idea either.

32-Tennessee Titans: Brandon Lafell WR LSU. No matter who their Qb is(and I bet Vince Young is dealt to Houston for picks), they need a better WR target.

Akh's 2009 Mock

1. Oakland Raiders: Michael Crabtree WR Texas Tech.*
*From now on, The Raiders will be expected to be picking #1 for eternity.

2. Arizona Cardinals: Michael Johnson DE/OLB Ga. Tech.

3. Baltimore Ravens: Michael Oher OT Ole Miss.

4. San Diego Chargers: Tyson Jackson DE LSU

25. Washington Redskins: Vince Oghobaase DT Duke

26. Indianapolis Colts: Aaron Curry LB Wake

27. Dallas Cowboys: Pannel Egboh DE Stanford

28. Seattle Seahawks: Duke Robinson OG Oklahoma

29. Green Bay Packers: Mike Mickens CB Cincy

30. Cleveland Browns: James Davis RB Clemson Community College

31. New Orleans Saints: Gerald McRath LB Southern Miss

32. Ever since he was drafted, Sean Taylor has been followed by controversy created by writers desperate to fill a page, but he, or any athlete I admire would have had to do a lot worse then that for me to even raise an eyebrow, not because I think that nobody that plays for my team can do any wrong, or because in my head I form an emotional bond with essentially a total stranger, but because in all honesty I couldn’t care less what someone I admire solely for the contributions their athletic prowess make to my team does in his own personal life, as nobody can really say without knowing Sean Taylor during his first two seasons with the Redskins the type of person he really was, so our admiration of him was football related, and anyone who tells you anything else either knew the man or is lying through his or her teeth.

As Redskins fans, he was our pride and joy because as far as playing the game of football is concerned, no other team had a player that could do the things he did on the field. He was a unique player, the kind that perhaps the NFL had never seen before, and he was playing for my Redskins. The media could have put whatever label they wanted on him and in all honestly, I wouldn’t have given a rat’s rear end because after all, the person in question was not a family member, friend or even a casual acquaintance, and most of the time, taking what you hear or read through the media with a grain of salt would be giving them a colossal complement. Then, 11/27/07 rolls by, and I felt it was appropriate to be effected in a certain way.

Obviously, I cringed at the thought of what those close to Sean must have been going through, and held his little girl and girlfriend in my thoughts. I was deeply moved by the genuine and heartfelt words of Clinton Portis and was in awe of the way he carried himself through the entire ordeal. I felt a great deal of sympathy for (defensive coordinator) Gregg Williams, who for all intents and purposes felt as if he had lost a son. I read every word that came pouring down from the message boards on hailredskins.com and found it remarkable that so many people were touched in such a profound manner, and while I was saddened, my outlook differed. I had a lot of things going on in my personal life and to grieve in the same manner as I would for someone who I personally knew was just not a priority. Going beyond the tragic circumstances and the fact that he died with only the safety and protection of his family in mind, in the end I thought grieving in such a manner was a bit over the top, as I did not loose someone that was close to me. If myself or any other Redskins fan lost their life, would the players react in the same way we did when we lost Sean? If I were a betting man, I’d put my money on an emphatic NO.

In the end, I thought it was a shame that such a tragic event has to reaffirm my belief that our worship of athletes has been driven past the brink. While there are many athletes, who like Sean Taylor, are admirable human beings, but there are millions of people in this country and others, that are equally as admirable, but nobody will buy their jersey and I’m pretty sure their memorial service will not be nationally broadcasted, and this is the note I thought I would close this chapter on after the Redskins were eliminated from the playoffs. A couple of months later, I came across a picture on the Internet of someone’s arm, with Sean Taylor’s face carved on it. If there was any doubt in my mind that my views over the reaction Taylor’s tragic death sparked, this picture erased them. Tears, candles, posters, #21 towels waiving at games, all this I thought to be very nice gestures and made me proud to belong to the same fan base, but a tattoo of a football player is borderline creepy. My initial thought was did the guy that attacked Monica Seles have a Steffi Graff tattoo? After seeing this, I was convinced I was in the right, but never shared any of these thoughts because I didn’t think most people were even ready to hear anything beyond what their personal thoughts were.

Now, we’re going to fast forward to Saturday, May 17th, two days after my 24th birthday, visiting my Dad in Los Angeles, waiting to leave for lunch and casually browsing through the Washington Post website. Eventually I come across an article about Sean Taylor written prior to the pro bowl, which was the most in-depth piece I’d read about Sean Taylor as a person. All of a sudden, I found myself almost in tears and if it had not been for the presence of my dad, I probably would have been. On the way to lunch, I began to speak of what I read in the article as if I was indeed speaking of someone that was close to me, as my words were brimming with pride, and then it struck me. I am a fan. Not in the sense that I buy the merchandise and cheer for the team, but in the sense that I, like everyone else, have formed an emotional bond with the team and players. They do not, and probably would not even care to know me, and to be honest, when you look at the emotional energy that goes into supporting a team, it makes no sense, but on May 17th, I finally learned that it doesn’t have too. Being a true fan of a team, much like many of life’s other beautiful experiences, needs no explanation or analysis. We sit at a stadium or in front of a television, we shout, we cheer, we cry, and the outcome has a much greater effect on us then it should. Sports bring out great passion in us that few things can, and have the power to bring us down when we’re up. How many of us had bad days turn good after a Redskins victory, and how many things in life can do that for us?

Thank you Les Carpenter for writing that article, and thank you Sean Taylor for opening the eyes of a cynic to the beauty of fandom, and for reawakening my pride in being a Redskins fan. I was convinced it was naïve and overly dramatic to think an athlete can affect one’s life he or she has never met, but Sean proved me wrong.

Article:
http://www.washingtonpost.com/wp-dyn/content/article/2008/02/09/AR2008020902504.html

Akh's Draft Review

Best Draft:
Chicago Bears
What I liked: Just about everything. In fact, I can’t argue with any pick of theirs.
What I didn’t like: The only thing I could take issue with is not getting Qb to replace Rexy.
Best Pick: Take your pick.
Worst Pick: Ervin Balwin DE MSU
Comment: Amazing draft. Just a dazzling draft.

Accomplished their goals headed into the draft:
Denver Broncos
What I liked: There’s a lot to like in this draft, I thought Denver would punt this one, but they ended up with a very solid draft. Clady might be a RT, but great value for the pick.
What I didn’t like: They passed on a lot of quality prospects for Jack Williams.
Best Pick: Josh Barrett S ASU
Worst Pick: Jack Williams Cb Kent State
Comment: Shanny needed a home run draft to help an ailing team, and he came very close to it.

New Orleans Saints
What I liked: Trading up for Sedrick Ellis, finally realizing that they needed defensive talent.
What I didn’t like: Tracy Porter at 40? Blech.
Best Pick: Sedrick Ellis DT USC
Worst Pick: Tracy Porter CB Iowa
Comment: They reached for Porter, but otherwise, got themselves 2 very effective prospects at DT(their biggest need) in Ellis and Pressely.

New England Patriots
What I liked: Addressing their needs in the defense, and still picking up a future 2nd rounder. Hard to argue with most of the picks.
What I didn’t like: They probably should have gone with Branden Albert over Mayo.
Best Pick: Shawn Crable OLB Michigan
Worst Pick: Matt Slater WR UCLA
Comment: Mayo might look like a reach, but he’s a great fit for their scheme. It’s hard to argue with their picks when they always do so well with them.

Arizona Cardinals:
What I liked: Solid contributors all the way around, there’s no pick that I can nitpick.
What I didn’t like: Not much, Calais Campbell is a risky pick though.
Best Pick: Early Doucet WR LSU
Worst Pick: Calais Campbell DE Miami.
Comment: Only DRC will contribute early, but solid.

Washington Redskins
What I liked: They needed to overhaul their WR position, and they got 2 of the top prospects at that position. They also had a nice first 4 picks.
What I didn’t like: Neglecting their Dline yet again. They drafted 2 safeties with medical issues also.
Best Pick: Devin Thomas WR Michigan State
Worst Pick: Colt Brennan QB Hawaii
Comment: Thomas, Kelly and Davis should give Jason Campbell some serious firepower in a year or two, they’ll need it with their defense. I also like the Chad Rinehart pick, good value for that spot.

Minnesota Vikings
What I liked: Getting Allen and potential starters with their first two picks.
What I didn’t like: Jared Allen on the love boat.
Best Pick: Josh David Booty Qb USC
Worst Pick: John Sullivan OC ND
Comment: If Booty gives them improvement at Qb, this was a great draft for the Vikes considering Allen. Until then, very solid.

Tampa Bay Buccaneers
What I liked: All their picks were pretty solid additions, even Cory Boyd could contribute soon. I can’t really argue with any selection.
What I didn’t like: They could have done better. Talib was a solid pick, but how about Devin Thomas there and maximize value?
Best Pick: Dre Moore DT UMD
Worst Pick: Dexter Jackson WR App State
Comment: 5 Qbs are competing in Tampa? What a cluster fuck.

Cleveland Browns
What I liked: Despite not having many picks, they did do a good job collecting talent.
What I didn’t like: Giving away more picks for basically projects.
Best Pick: Ahtyba Rubin DT ISU
Worst Pick: Beau Bell LB UNLV
Comment: Trading up for Rucker makes me think they know something about KWII….

Seattle Seahawks
What I liked: They needed to set the table more for Mora, than fill short terms needs, in this, they did pretty well. Jackson, Carlson, Bryant and Coutu will all contribute in the long term and were good picks.
What I didn’t like: This team is basically unchanged, they have a team good enough to beat up on the pathetic NFC West, but not good enough to be a contender.
Best Pick: Lawrence Jackson DE USC
Worst Pick: Justin Forsett RB California
Comment: I have a feeling that they’re going to deal Darryl Tapp in the near future. Jackson is a polished player who just needs to work on adjustments, and with Tapp and Kearney in place, they probably are in the market for something like a vet RB or WR to help the offense out. Tapp would probably fetch that.

Green Bay Packers
What I liked: Really solid picks all the way through. The sheer talent acquired was amazing.
What I didn’t like: Undermining Rodgers by getting Brohm.
Best Pick: Patrick Lee CB Auburn
Worst Pick: Matt Flynn QB LSU
Comment: Can’t argue with this draft, except for the Brohm pick.

St Louis Rams
What I liked: They had a real nice run there from the 3rd to 5th rounds, picking up 4 steals on the cheap. Long should be a nice addition, but probably not much more than an upgraded version of Grant Winstrom.
What I didn’t like: Passing on Glenn Dorsey for Long, passing on Devin Thomas for Donnie Avery? Wtf?
Best Pick: John Greco OL Toledo
Worst Pick: Donnie Avery WR Houston
Comment: Not a bad draft for the Rams. Long, despite being taken above Dorsey, should be a quality DE for them, and their 2nd day should pay dividends fairly quickly.

Kansas City Chiefs
What I liked: Their first round, it may have cost them Jared Allen, but jeez: Dorsey AND Albert…wow.
What I didn’t like: Very raw prospects after the first round.
Best Pick: Glenn Dorsey DT LSU
Worst Pick: Jamaal Charles Rb Texas
Comment: A lot of pundits are lauding the Chiefs for their draft, and while Dorsey/Albert were great picks, it was costly for them. The rest of their draft just doesn’t impress.

Buffalo Bills
What I liked: Their first 3 rounds, addressing needs with solid prospects.
What I didn’t like: Too many raw projects on the 2nd day.
Best Pick: Leodis McKelvin Cb Troy
Worst Pick: Demetrius Bell OT NW State
Comment: Hardy should keep Evans happy, McKelvin was a total steal.

Pittsburgh Steelers
What I liked: Taking some solid players with the BPA theory. I really liked the Sweed and Hills picks.
What I didn’t like: Bruce Davis over Philip Wheeler. They don’t need another edge rusher, they needed a versatile LB.
Best Pick: Limas Sweed WR Texas
Worst Pick: Bruce Davis DE UCLA
Comment: Willie Parker and Hines Ward might be grumpy, but a quality draft. I can’t argue with the Mendenhall or Sweed picks at all. Hills might be starting soon.

Struggled with the draft:
Jacksonville Jaguars
What I liked: The idea of Derrick Harvey playing next to John Henderson.
What I didn’t like: Most of the rest of their draft.
Best Pick: Derrick Harvey DE Florida
Worst Pick: Thomas Williams OLB USC
Comment: Harvey might be good enough for to forget about the rest of the picks, but I just can’t get excited about it.

Detroit Lions
What I liked: Their 3rd round, Avril and Fluellen were solid picks.
What I didn’t like: I understand that there were after Mayo, Harvey, Chris Williams and Jonathan Stewart, but dealing out of #15 when Branden Albert was perfect for them? And getting Cherlidus? Wtf?
Best Pick: Cliff Avril LB Purdue
Worst Pick: Gosder Cherlius OT BC
Comment: Meh..Millen should have just taken a WR, it would have made more sense lol.

New York Giants
What I liked: The Champs had some big needs headed into this draft, and they filled a few of them without reaching. Phillips will help their secondary. Goff will make Pierce expendable.
What I didn’t like: Taking Mario Manningham in the 3rd? At best he’ll be the 4th WR this year. And they took him over Rinehart or Andre Caldwell, both of whom made more sense.
Best Pick: Jonathan Goff ILB Vandy
Worst Pick: Mario Manningham WR Michigan
Comment: Kenny Phillips will pay immediate dividends, Terrell Thomas might also soon, Goff in the future, but the rest of this draft was bizarre.

San Francisco 49ers
What I liked: Solid picks on both lines with their first 2 picks.
What I didn’t like: Where does Reggie Smith play again?
Best Pick: Chilo Rachal OG USC
Worst Pick: Reggie Smith DB Oklahoma
Comment: They addressed some issues well, but they need contributions from the rookies pretty soon in order to escape another shitty season.

Cincinnati Bengals
What I liked: Getting some quality players like Rivers, Simpson, Sims, etc.
What I didn’t like: Collecting more headcases.
Best Pick: Pat Sims DT Auburn
Worst Pick: Jason Shirley DT Fresno State
Comment: 2 WRs relatively high…maybe they’re preparing the way to dump a certain WR….

Houston Texans
What I liked: Great 2nd day.
What I didn’t like: Shitty 1st day.
Best Pick: Xavier Adibi LB Va Tech
Worst Pick: Duane Brown OT Va Tech
Comment: Really? Duane Brown over Sam Baker…really?

Miami Dolphins
What I liked: Fixed their lines(hopefully) finally.
What I didn’t like: Henne doesn’t do much for me. They would have been better off with Booty and using that pick elsewhere. They still didn’t fix their WR probs.
Best Pick: Kendall Langford DT/DE Hampton
Worst Pick: Chad Henne Qb Michigan
Comment: Unexciting draft, but I think the Big Tuna knows it’s a multi-year rebuild.

Indianapolis Colts
What I liked: Not much. Odd draft, and they seemed to over-do some positions of need, and ignore others.
What I didn’t like: Just about all of this draft.
Best Pick: Philip Wheeler OLB Ga Tech
Worst Pick: Where to begin…Mike Pollack OL ASU
Comment: I would give Polian the benefit of the doubt, but geez…he’s asking for a lot of faith here.

Atlanta Falcons
What I liked: Matt Ryan and getting 3 players who should contribute immediately.
What I didn’t like: It looks like the brain trust took the entire 2nd day off.
Best Pick: Matt Ryan Qb BC
Worst Pick: Harry Douglas WR Louisville
Comment: Good first day, shitty second one. Ryan might be enough to get people to forget that.

Get off the meth:
San Diego Chargers
What I liked: Antoine Cason, a steal imo.
What I didn’t like: Giving up a 2nd next year just to get Hester, but then drafting another RB…huh?
Best Pick: Antoine Cason CB Arizona
Worst Pick: Marcus Thomas RB UTEP
Comment: They did nothing about their RT or Safety issues, and didn’t snag a young 3-4 DLman to help out Williams. Bad draft even with Cason, horrible if he busts out.

Dallas Cowboys
What I liked: Not much. They got their name called a lot with all their deals. I can’t get excited about any of their picks.
What I didn’t like: They picked up a couple extra picks in 2009, but nothing high. They deal a conditional 4th for PacMan, but then trade up for Jenkins? They give themselves another headache by drafting 2 Rbs when Barber is in a walk year, and they don’t do anything to protect themselves from TO’s twitchiness in his walk year. And the Tuna royally fucked them in a deal for 2 decent players
Best Pick: Tashard Choice Rb G-Tech
Worst Pick: Martellus Bennett TE TAMU
Comment: Jeruh would cry about this performance, but his last plastic surgery removed his tear ducts.

Philadelphia Eagles
What I liked: They took some interesting projects later in the draft.
What I didn’t like: They just don’t like first round picks apparently. Trevor Laws and DeSean Jackson make little sense considering their needs.
Best Pick: Quintin Demps S UTEP
Worst Pick: DeSean Jackson WR California.
Comment: Weird, weird draft. Little rhyme or reason with their first 3 picks.

Tennessee Titans
What I liked: Not much. Jason Jones was a decent pick, but another damn Rb? Did they decide that since Vince Young can’t use WRs anyways, they just are ignoring the position all together?
What I didn’t like: Chris Johnson when they have LenWhale and Chris Henry on the roster? Also, a draft full of reaches.
Best Pick: Jason Jones DE EMU(almost by default).
Worst Pick: Chris Johnson Rb ECU
Comment: The draft equivalent of a 3 and out. I feel sorry for Jeff Fisher.

Carolina Panthers
What I liked: Their 3rd round.
What I didn’t like: Just about everything else.
Best Pick: Charles Godfrey Cb Iowa
Worst Pick: Giving away a future first for Jeff Otah OT Pittsburgh

New York Jets
What I liked: Their final realization that in order to run a WCO variant, you need a fucking Tight End who can catch the ball.
What I didn’t like: Giving 68 million to both Pace and Thomas combined, then going out and using your #6 pick on a guy who plays the same bloody position.
Best Pick: Marcus Henry WR Kansas
Worst Pick: Vernon Gholston DE/OLB Ohio State.
Comment: Borderline pathetic. Keller should help, but jeez.

Baltimore Ravens
What I liked: High upside talent across the board, an Ozzie Newsome special.
What I didn’t like: Ozzie Newsome bravely drafting offensive players high again.
Best Pick: Tavares Gooden LB Miami.
Worst Pick: Joe Flacco QB Delaware
Comment: Kyle Boller, meet Joe Flacco..now that you’ve met, you can become the same player.
Comment: Bad enough that they dealt away a future first and totally botched their first round, but they didn’t bother to fix their Qb problems.

The Raiders:
Oakland Raiders
What I liked: Ummm…let’s come back to this.
What I didn’t like: The entire draft. Bad enough that they go out and take a Rb first, but McFadden? Miami Dolphins: Jake Long OT Michigan. Done deal.

2. St. Louis Rams: Glenn Dorsey DT LSU. The best player in the draft imo, this is a no brainer for the Rams.

3. Atlanta Falcons: Matt Ryan QB BC. Why is everyone down on him?

4. Oakland Raiders: Vernon Gholston DE/OLB Ohio State. Davis really REALLY wants McFadden, but Ryan talks him into a defender.

5. Kansas City Chiefs: Chris Long DE UVA. They replace Allen with a guy who won’t be a trouble maker.

6. New York Jets: Devin Thomas WR Michigan State. His meteoritic rise drops jaws.

7. New England Patriots (f/SF): Branden Albert OL UVA. This allows them to move Light inside.

8. Baltimore Ravens: Leodis McKelvin CB Troy. Rolle and McAllister are getting up there in years, don’t be surprised to see them jump back into the first for Brohm, Henne, Flacco, etc.

9. Cincinnati Bengals: Sedrick Ellis DT USC. Makes too much sense to actually happen. If they deal Johnson, expect a WR here.

10. New Orleans Saints: Keith Rivers OLB USC. Without a quality DT available here, the Saints take the best available defender. Great pick here.

11. Buffalo Bills: Limas Sweed WR Texas. Playmakers to keep Evans happy is the goal for the Bills.

12. Denver Broncos: Darren McFadden Rb Arkansas. Its not the character concerns that will drop him, its that he just can’t take a hit.

13. Carolina Panthers: Ryan Clady OT Boise State. Some concerns about his strength drops him slightly.

14. Chicago Bears: Rashard Mendenhall RB Illinois. Cedric Benson just is a bust, don’t be shocked if they deal up for McFadden if he starts falling.

15. Detroit Lions: Derrick Harvey DE Florida. Doesn’t make sense, so it must be Millen.

16. Arizona Cardinals: Mike Jenkins CB South Florida. Another riser in the draft, he’s perfect for the zone based systems in the NFL.

17. Kansas City Chiefs (f/Minny): Dominique Rogers-Cromartie CB Tenn State. Law is gone, Surtain should be.

18. Houston Texans: Chris Williams OT Vandy. Matt Schaub took this card up to the podium personally.

19. Philadelphia Eagles: James Hardy WR Indiana. A bit of a reach, but they need a Flanker in the worst way.

20. Tampa Bay Buccaneers: Jonathan Stewart Rb Oregon. The Cadillac’s axle is broken.

21. Washington Redskins: Kenny Phillips S Miami. I highly doubt the Redskins will be picking here at the end of the day, if you have a big Vet Wr and want a late 1st, please contact Vinny Cerrato at vcerrato@drosenhaus.com

22. Dallas Cowboys (f/CLE): Reggie Smith S/CB Oklahoma. The boys have to replace Roy sometime soon, he’s just too much of a liability.

23. Pittsburgh Steelers: Sam Baker OT USC. Versatile OT who will help the Steelers badly.

24. Tennessee Titans: Philip Merling DE Cletius Tech. They got devastated in FA, DE is as good a place as any to restock.

25. Seattle Seahawks: Jeff Otah OT Pittsburgh. Locklear is a liability, and Mora Jr will need a solid OL to build around.

26. Jacksonville Jaguars: Jerod Mayo LB Tennessee. Peterson looks spent, and they need something if they want to run a 3-4 hybrid like they’re saying.

27. San Diego Chargers: Felix Jones Rb Arkansas. They’ll miss Turner, but without Neal, they need to spell LDT more.

28. Dallas Cowboys: Malcolm Kelly WR Oklahoma. Does anyone think that the Boys will give TO a 3 year extension?

29. San Francisco 49'ers (f/IND): Quentin Groves DE Auburn. Lawson looks like a waste of a pick.

30. Green Bay Packers: Antoine Cason Cb Arizona. Woodson and Harris are getting old.

31. New York Giants: Gosder Cherlius OT BC. Kareem McKenzie is getting old, Coughlin knows BC and likes BC linemen.

BigCountry's 2nd Mock

1. Miami- Jake Long, OT Michigan (Parcells has to rebuild a franchise who, kindly speaking, is in transition, and had to have felt that Matt Ryan wasn’t good enough to give up on John Beck. Instead, he may get the next great blind side protector)

2. St. Louis- Glenn Dorsey, DT LSU (This pick will likely come down to Dorsey or Chris Long, but the Rams have been in love with Dorsey ever since his pro-day, and the rarity of a truly dominant inside pass rusher gives Dorsey the edge)

3. Atlanta- Matt Ryan, QB Boston College (The fact that there’s even a debate over this pick shows that the Falcons might still have some doubts over Ryan, but once Dorsey is gone Ryan is the logical choice. If Ryan can play within himself a little more, he has the physical tools and above all the mental makeup to be a franchise QB)

4. Oakland- Chris Long, DE Virginia (There have been rumors about McFadden going here but I have a very hard time seeing Al Davis pass on the pick that will headline the entire draf,t and the Raiders running game seemed to be picking up more steam as the past season went on, so they should be happy with what they have)

5. Kansas City- Vernon Gholston, DE Ohio State (Even if Jared Allen isn’t dealt before the draft, his days with the Chiefs are over, which makes this pick a pretty easy one. Ghoslton’s size will be less of an issue lining up at right end for a team that plays a Tampa 2 scheme)

6. N.Y Jets- Darren McFadden, RB Arkansas (Gholston and Ryan are off the board,
but the Jets get a nice consolation prize. Despite character questions, McFadden
will provide a huge boost to any offense he joins, and will fit nicely into one that
likes to move its running backs around and needs a shot in the arm)

7 New England (from SF)- Ryan Clady, OT Boise State (Ideally the Pats would like to trade out of this pick if McFadden and Long are gone but they have a need on the right side of offensive line and Clady will have an opportunity to start right away at tackle)

8 Baltimore- Mike Jenkins, CB Central Florida (At this point it comes down to which cornerback the Ravens prefer, as they are in desperate need of one. Jenkins may not have 4.3 speed, but he is physical and extremely technically sound, which is something the Ravens look for in their cover men)

9 Cincinnati- Sedrick Ellis, DT Southern Cal (The Bengals could also use a linebacker here but it’s hard to pass up on a guy that could be an anchor for your defensive line for years to come. Ellis isn’t as athletic as Dorsey but he’s excellent as collapsing the pocket, and this is an invaluable asset to a struggling defense)

10 New Orleans- Keith Rivers, LB USC (The Saints would love to get one of the two defensive tackles but they will have to do it via trade. If that doesn’t happen, Rivers is clearly their guy as their linebacking crops desperately needs an infusion of youth and athleticism)

11 Buffalo- Leodis McKelvin, CB Troy (The Bills have a need at CB and receiver, but the drop off to the second tire wideouts isn’t as steep as the drop to the second tier corners, and despite not playing in a major conference, McKelvin knows how to play the position and will start right away in a secondary that struggled last year)

12 Denver- Chris Williams, OT Vanderbilt (Williams is big and athletic with good hands, and is who the Broncos have been targeting for sometime)

13 Carolina- Derrick Harvey, DE Florida (The Panthers are also big fans of Jonathan Stewart and have a need there, but value wise with the retirement of Mike Rucker, they don’t pass up on a chance to plug in a player who is the prototypical 4-3 right defensive end)

14 Chicago- Branden Albert, OL Virginia (Simply put, a good offensive line can make an average running back look good, but a great running back can’t make a putrid offensive line look average. Albert has cometted up the board since his pro day and could start at a number of positions for the Bears)

15 Detroit- Dominique Rogers-Cromartie, CB Tenn State (With the Lions biggest need being a corner, they would gladly gamble on the most physically gifted CB in the draft)

16 Arizona- Jonathan Stewart, RB Oregon (The Cards see their player taken a pick before theirs, but they would gladly take Stewart, as their offensive line is starting to come together, and adding a back with size, speed and excellent vision to the weapons they already have could give the Cards the consistency they’ve been seeking for so long on offense)

17 Kansas City (from MIN) - Jeff Otah, OT Pittsburgh (Once the best in the league, the Chiefs offensive line is now perhaps their biggest weakness, and if Brody Croyle is to have any chance, he needs not only protection, but for Larry Johnson to go back to being Larry Johnson, and Otah helps on both accounts)

18 Houston- Rashard Mendenhall, RB Illinois (The Texans have a need at CB, but Mendenhall’s ability is hard to overlook at this point. He has an uncanny ability to find holes and blow through them, and will give the Texans a great weapon to consistently take pressure off their passing game)

19 Philadelphia- Kenny Phillips, S Miami Fl (Brian Dawkins isn’t getting any younger, and while he’s still playing at a high level, the Eagles could use an upgrade along side him. The Eagles could go in a few directions here, but the fact that Phillips was once considered a top 10 pick and could be the steal of the draft tips the scale to his direction

20 Tampa Bay- DeSean Jackson, WR Cal (Some may question this pick but the Bucs have exactly zero big play capability aside from Joey Galloway, who’s clock is beginning to wind down. Gruden will find ways to use Jackson and put him in positions to create after the catch. Jackson’s kick return ability will also help in a division that produces close game after close game every year)

21 Washington- Phillip Merling, DE Clemson (Dan Snyder lowering parking prices is more likely then Chris Williams or Branden Albert, the two players the Redskins really want, being available at this point, and that brings it down to Merling or Malcolm Kelly. With the Redskins having more at wide receiver then at defensive end, Merling is the guy and while he may be unspectacular, could give the Redskins a solid all around starter for years to come)

22 Dallas (From CLE)- Aqib Talib, CB Kansas (Besides Mexican get aways with semi-talented pop stars, this is the Cowboys only weakness, as after the loss of Jaque Reeves, their depth behind Terrence Newman and Anthony Henry is almost non existent. As well as addressing a need, the Cowboys get a player who’s future potential could well exceed the spot he was taken in.)

23 Pittsburgh- Kentwan Balmer, DL North Carolina (Brad Keisel and Aaron Smith are two of the most hard working, tough and gritty football players you’ll find, but the Steelers need some youth and athleticism on their front three. Balmer has the ability to play right end in the 3-4 and will give the Steelers more push from that position)

24 Tennessee- Limas Sweed,WR Texas (The signing of Alge Crumpler will help Vince Young bounce back, but he needs a target on the outside that can go up and get the ball, and even in their days together at Texas, Sweed was often Young’s go-to guy)

25 Seattle- Dustin Keller, TE Purdue (Keller blew scouts away at the combine with his speed and hands and solidified his first round status. Mike Holgrem loves good tight ends but hasn’t been able to find a consistent one in Seattle, and is hoping Keller, who seems like a perfect fit for that particular offense, will change that)

26 Jacksonville- Calais Campbell, DE Miami Fl (This is a risky pick for the Jags, but one they can afford and in many aspects must take. Campbell had a disappointing junior season and an even more disappointing combine but the ability is there, and a coach like Jack Del Rio should fancy himself as someone who can get Campbell’s light to turn back on. If he can, this is a steal)

27 San Diego- Jerod Mayo, LB Tennessee (Mayo is another player who has seen his stock rise, and San Diego desperately need to add some punch to their inside linebacker group, some which Mayo has plenty of)

28 Dallas- Felix Jones, RB Arkansas (Taking Jones here is a luxury pick the Cowboys are very happy they can afford, as his speed and burst can be a very dangerous complement to Barber wearing out defenses)

29 San Francisco (from IND)- Gosder Cherilus, OT Boston College (The Niners also like Quentin Groves a
lot, but we have yet to see what a healthy Manny Lawson can do. On the other hand, healthy or not, the 49ers QB’s have seen what the offensive line can do, which besides picking their signal callers up and picking the grass out of their facemask, isn’t much.

30 Green Bay- Brandon Flowers, CB Virginia Tech (The Packers love physical cornerbacks, and their duo of physical corners aren’t young and don’t have much behind them. Flowers was tailor made to play in this defense and will prove that stopwatches have less bearing on evaluating a football player then some scouts think)

31 X

32 N.Y Giants- Dan Connor, LB Penn State (The Giants let their two starting linebackers off a superbowl winning defense walk, and need to bolster the position. Conner can move to the outside and thanks to superior instincts and toughness, is ready to start right away)

Fent's Latest Mock

1.
