Free Agency Preview

More predictions than preview, but this list also has a list of player who are likely to be dealt also(Franchise tagged players excluded):

Rex Grossman: There’s probably not a lot of interest in Rexy, and the Bears have shown they’re genetically incapable of getting a quality Qb under Angelo. New team: Bears.

Derek Anderson: He’s staying barring a major reverse or un-passable trade offer. Team: Cleveland(Martha Quinn might be available).

Todd Collins: Collins rolls with Saunders. New team: St Louis.

Michael Turner: He’ll go somewhere he can start, or at least be the prime back in a 2 back set. New team: Chicago.

Julius Jones: Barring a surprise, he should follow Parcells to Miami to be Brown’s main backup. New team: Miami.

Jamal Lewis: Cleveland wants to keep him, he apparently wants to stay also. New team: Cleveland.

Marion Barber: He’s probably not going to stay long term in Dallas, but he should sign his tender, then walk in a year. New team: Dallas.

Randy Moss: No way New England lets him leave. New team: New England.

Bernard Berrian: Its very doubtful he stays in Chicago with their Qb situation. Expect him to bolt for San Fran to headline Martz’s offense. New team: San Francisco.

Jerry Porter: He’s not going to get a contract like he thinks he deserves, but expect him to stay in Oakland. New team: Oakland.

Devery Henderson: New Orleans is in a bit of a bind here, they have some cap issues, but want to keep him, Complicating this is that Robert Meachem is sitting on the bench. It is plausible that they deal Meachem, but more plausible that they let Henderson walk. New Team: Jacksonville

DJ Hackett: He’s probably headed to Washington to join Zorn. New team: Washington.

Ernest Wilford: He probably is best fit for a team with an established split end so he doesn’t have to carry the load. New team: Carolina.

Flozell Adams: Miami needs a LT, and is willing to pay good money for one. New team: Miami.

Alan Faneca: Houston’s stupid enough to throw a major deal at him. New team: Houston.

Jason Brown: RFA who will draw some interest. Pittsburgh will need to replace Faneca, and would be willing to give up a 3rd for him. New team: Pittsburgh.

Evan Mathis: RFA who will draw a high tender most likely. New team: Carolina.

Casey Wiegmann: He should follow Saunders to St Louis. New Team: St Louis.

Justin Smith: A solid but unspectacular DE. Cincy doesn’t seem to be that interested in keeping him too much. New team: Minnesota.

Antwan Odom: High energy DE who thrives in the Tennessee system, expect him to bolt with Haynesworth also a FA. New team: Philadelphia.

Marques Douglas: San Fran loves him and won’t let him bolt. New team: San Fran.

Corey Williams: Green Bay would love to keep him, but with Harrell, Jenkins and Jolly, they won’t try that hard. New team: Chicago.

Randy Starks: An interesting DT player, probably more a system player, expect someone to overpay by 20% though. New team: Atlanta.

Lance Briggs: Wants out of Chicago badly, expect him to either replace Rocky McIntosh in DC or Derek Smith in San Fran, right now San Fran probably has the upper hand. New team: San Fran.

Tedy Bruschi: Mangini wants to stick it to the Pats again. Him and Harris make for a good pair of ILbs. New team: Jets.

Clark Haggans: The new regime in Miami didn’t bring in Porter and they have enough cap room to kick him to the curb. Haggans is perfect for the system they want to run. New team: Miami.

DeMorrio Williams: Van Gorder is familiar with both of him and Boley, but one will walk. DeMorrio walks up 95 to Washington to replace the hobbled Rocky McIntosh. New team: Washington.

Michael Boley: RFA and they love him. Van Gorder made him into a minor star, he’s not leaving. New team: Atlanta.

Asaunte Samuel: The Pats won’t give him Nate Clements money, but someone is stupid enough to do it. Miami needs quality at CB badly. New team: Miami.

Nnamdi Asomugha: You’ll have to kidnap him to get him out of Oakland. He’ll be tagged almost certainly, and Oakland won’t accept anything under 2 1sts for him. New team: Oakland.

Marcus Trufant: Wants Clements’ money, won’t get it from anyone. He’ll end up staying in Seattle. New team: Seattle.

Gibril Wilson: Loves the Giants, the Giants probably won’t outspend anyone for him. New team: Miami.

Oshiomoge Atogwe: St Louis can’t lose any of the little defensive they have. New team: St Louis.

Prominent players possibly available in trades:
Jeremy Shockey: The one player who’s not been celebrating the Giants’ run has been Shockey. Kevin Boss has looked about as effective as a receiver and better as a blocker and 1/10 the price. They’ll have to do it quietly, and get a good piece back for him, but its entirely plausible they deal him. New team: Miami(for a 2nd and something else).

Santana Moss: He’s been struggling for a couple years, but he’s beloved in DC. However, the switch to the WCO makes him a big candidate for a deal. The skins would love to shed his salary to open up a spot for Flanker. New team: Arizona for a 2nd or Boldin.

Julius Peppers: The owner called him out for his lack of leadership before the season. The owner called him out for his lack of leadership during the season. The owner called him out for his lack of leadership after the season. And he topped it off with a terrible season. He has a 14 million dollar cap charge for 2008 and it will be shocking if they don’t look to deal him. If Washington actually went after DEs, I would say they would make a play for him, but they don’t. New team: St Louis for their 2nd and Randy McMichael.

Roy Williams(WR): Inexplicably, the Lions want to dump the one top ten WR pick who’s panned out. Calvin Johnson showed flashes in his rookie year, but is far too unpolished to carry a Qb. Everyone will bid on him, and knowing Millen, he’ll dump him for 50 cents on the dollar. New team: Philadelphia for Reggie Brown and a 2nd.

DeAngelo Hall: Up for a contract, and the new GM didn’t draft him(and the GM who did doesn’t like him apparently). He could be available in a deal for cheap. Expect him to go to west young man. New team: Houston for a future 2nd.

Chester Taylor: Great change of pace back to AP, but Minny probably would like a better slashing RB to replace Taylor as a complement to Peterson. New team: San Diego for Darren Sproles and a mid/late round pick.

Willie Parker: A bit of a surprise here, but Tomlin clearly was getting exasperated at his fumblitis which cost them games late in the season. He has a cheap, movable contract, and in a draft full of RB prospects, the Steelers could be convinced to part with him. New team: Jets for a 2nd rounder.

Jason Taylor: 50/50 whether he would be dealt, but he truly doesn’t fit naturally in the 3-4 as an OLB. With his salary and Big Tuna’s desire to rebuild that franchise, expect Taylor to be shopped. New team: Carolina for their 2nd.

Jonathan Vilma: Bad fit in the 3-4 and seems to be close to getting the Pete Kendall treatment from the Mangina. Expect him to be shopped around relatively cheaply. New team: Detroit for Shaun Rogers

Larrry Fitzgerald/Anquan Boldin: One of them has to go due to salary concerns, Fitz’s 14 million buck base salary makes him a candidate, but it’s more likely that Boldin will be moved and Fitz restructured. New team: Washington for Santana Moss(Whisenhunt loves his WRs small and fast) or Chicago for a 2nd.

Javon Walker: Why is Denver considering dumping Walker? Brandon Marshall is an emerging player and could use a solid vet like Walker to draw doubles off of him. However, since Shanahan isn’t making smart moves of late, don’t be surprised to see him on the move. New team: Baltimore for Mark Clayton and a 3rd.
