The ten NFL trades that need to happen this offseason:
1. Eli Manning to Miami for Miami’s 2nd and a conditional 1st-2nd in 09. Eli has a killer arm, but he just can’t seem to deal with the pressure of playing in NYC. The fans aren’t going to accept him(shades of Arod in NY here also), and with his contract changing, the Giants have a window to deal him for high picks. Miami likes John Beck, but they also miss winning. Miami is a low intensity sports town(as compared to NYC) and Eli would be a good fit for their system.
2. Brady Quinn to Carolina for their 08 2nd and DeAngelo Williams. Stick with the guy who is working, not the potential one—even if it means eating some crow. The Panthers need someone talented at QB(Delhomme, that’s not you), and Quinn would be a good piece to build around. Williams would look great behind the Browns’ Oline, and the Browns get a mid to high 2nd also.
3. Donovan McNabb to Atlanta for Alge Crumpler and a 3rd Round pick. Donovan’s time is Philly is over, both on the field and capwise, LJ Smith is a FA and is rumored to be headed to Lambeau. Even if Atlanta drafts a kid to replace Ron Cujo, they’re still stuck in neutral at best. Trading Crumpler and a 3nd for 3 years of McNabb is a steal. The Falcons can recoup that 3nd by trading someone like DeAngelo Hall to Washington. Speaking of the Redskins…
4. San Diego trades WR Vincent Jackson to Washington for a 3rd round pick and RB Ladell Betts. This trade clears out surplus players for both teams: Jackson moves to a team that will actually use him in the possession/Flanker role he’s best at(the problem in San Diego being that they have Gates for that role in SoCal and have picks invested in Chambers/Davis) and Betts clearly has lost the trust of the Redskins’ coaches, and he can be a cheap, locked up, backup to LDT.
5. Baltimore Ravens trade their 2008 3rd and their 2009 4st rounder to New England for Matt Cassell. The Ravens, despite Boller’s flashes, still need a young Qb to build around badly. Cassell has potential and the Pats will listen to offers as always. He’s cheaper than someone like Quinn or such and will be cheaper for certain, and the Ravens can use their top picks in the 08 draft on rebuilding an old roster.
6. Bengals trade Chad Johnson to the Jaguars for Reggie Williams and the Jags’ 1st and 3rd round picks in 2008. While Johnson is one of the few Bengals who hasn’t been arrested, he is the leader of the team, and the rest of the team clearly takes their cues from him. On sheer talent, no one should deal him, but the Bengals have to change that locker room. If they can pick up a serviceable WR in Williams, along with a couple high picks, they should jump on it immediately. The Jags need that final offensive piece to take on the Colts, and Johnson is that.
7. Bears trade Cedric Benson to the Giants for Steve Smith and their 2nd round pick. Benson has clearly lost the support of that locker room and the trust of the coaching staff. The Giants found out that Brandon Jacobs is made of glass. Benson isn’t much more durable than he is, but he’s another bruising back who can split time with Jacobs. This move is assuming that the Bears make a move for Michael Turner or Marion Barber and that the Giants don’t fire their GM and get a competent one.
8. Jets deal Jonathan Vilma and DeWayne Robertson to the Rams for Jonathan Wade and 08 2nd and 4th round picks. This trade is more about the Jets clearing out players who just won’t fit into the Mangini system. Jonathan Wade is a high upside CB project who could form a great team with Revis. The Rams need defensive playmakers in the worst possible way, Robertson and Carriker would be a decent pair in the middle of the defense to guard Vilma.
9. Dallas deals Roy Williams and Bobby Carpenter to Denver for Tim Crowder, Selvin Young and their 08 1nd round pick. Dallas has some cap issues on the horizon with DeMarcus Ware, TO, Newman, Henry, etc all coming up within a year or so of each other. Roy is the most tradeable of these players, and they pick up a RB talent, along with a great 3-4 DE fit in Crowder. The Dallas fans will howl over this one, but its Roy or Ware or Newman-one has to go-take your pick.
10. Raiders deal Terdell Sands, Lamont Jordan, Fabian Washington and their 08 2rd round pick to the New Orleans Saints for Devery Henderson, Will Smith, Mike McKenzie and their 08 3rd rounder. The Raiders clear out their Rb situation, while the Saints get a replacement for Deuce and get something back for Will Smith. Washington replaces McKenzie and it adds badly needed speed to their defense. Sands might be a stiff, but he’s better than what they have at DT right now. The Raiders get a serviceable WR in Henderson(who is probably better than anything else they have and allows them to deal Curry or Porter for picks) and a real pass rusher to go with Burgess(and could replace Burgess down the line).

well after looking at your top ten trades, i feel that no team would approve any of them. You are "trading" RB to teams who already have 2 established RB's, not to mention the Jets trading 2 of their best defensive players for an unproven "project" CB. Get yourself a new project, NHL drafting and trading, you stink at football strategy....
Re The Rbs: I'm assuming that you're referring to DeAngelo Williams going to Cleveland and Cedric Benson to the Giants.
1-Jamal Lewis is on a 1 year contract. I would be shocked if he stays there in Cleveland.
2-The Giants have a 3 headed monster at RB with Jacobs, Droughns and Ward. None of them have really distinguished themselves this year. Benson would be a relatively cheap back to throw into that system at the expense of Ward or Droughns since Jacobs doesn't look like he's able to take the pounding of a full season.
Re the Jets/Rams trade: Yes, Vilma and Robertson are good players, but not for the Jets' system. Both are total wastes in the 3-4, and its been widely rumored that the Jets are shopping Vilma(and were last year) and I've heard rumors that Robertson will be dealt. Getting a very high 2nd and 4th(along with Wade) for both of them would be a steal for the Jets.
Maybe you should bone up on your NFL strategy and stop looking at Madden football as your source of info, no?
so you want the ravens to trade a 3rd round pick which belongs to buffalo (Willis trade) and a 4th rounder the next year for a qb who has not only seen incredibly limited playtime and got benched after throwing an INT. They are better off drafting a qb, even though they should get a corner or de in the first round.
Second, the chargers do not need betts. I know turner is going to be a FA but they can add someone in the draft. Someone like mike hart might be a good choice in the 3rd round. Also, they are very slim at the wide receiver position. I think they will add a wideout in the first round but jackson still gives them depth and could be a solid number 3 receiver.
You're right, the Ravens did give their 3rd to the Bills for McGahee(I'll make an edit). And Billick has used up his 8th of 9 lives. If the choice for him(and the franchise) is a guy like Cassell fairly cheap or going through the growing pains with a guy like Woodson or Ryan, I think they'll take the Cassell Route. The advantage of not having to use their top pick on a QB is that they can use that pick on an offensive player or to replace someone on that aging defense(Dorsey, Long, Baker, DeShaun Jackson, Laurinaitis, etc).
San Diego could go RB fairly easily in the mid rounds, but Betts is a guy locked up for 4 more years at a fairly cheap price(4 years-7 million sans Signing Bonus). He's an above average to good backup RB. Norv does like his Vets on offense.
You'd trade multiple picks for QB who's playing time was so limited in college he started taking snaps at tight end? Cassell is the all time career back-up. He looked like garbage when he got his opportunities for regular playing time at USC.
LDT? His initials are L.T. Get over it. It's not like it's some hokey nickname like Prime Time. It's the initials he's had since birth to shorten a name much longer than Larry's.
-What are the Ravens' options here? Give up a high first for Derek Anderson? Get a re-tread(who will be little different than the drek they have at QB?). Use their first on a Qb, thus ensuring a bad season next year, and leave more holes unfilled? Cassell has been learning for 2-3 years behind the best in the business. A couple mid rounders is cheap for a guy like that, especially since they can use their first 2 picks in 08 on other holes.
-There's only ONE LT and that Lawrence Taylor. Tomlinson can't be LT also. LDT, TL, "Watch my stats decline when Lorenzo Neal retires"...whatever. He can't be LT though.
What do you mean he can't be LT? That's his fucking initials to his godamn name you idiot. Get over it with this "there can only be one LT" bullshit, Jesus. Since when can't people have the same "anything" in this world?...ridiculous people.
Wow, that's worth yelling like a douchebag over. Tomlinson can call himself the Queen of Finland for all I care, but there's only 1 LT for the NFL. And to get technical, since the D is capitalized, using the D would be appropriate between L and T.
Please continue sounding like a jackass though. Its entertaining. I guess you have no problem with some NBA player named Michael Johnson calling himself "MJ" though?
I don't think many Dallas fans will moan about trading Roy Williams. There is a strong anti-Williams crowd right now, of which I am one, who would love to get rid of him. But we don't need a DE. That isn't going to happen. I see Dallas grabbing a running back replacement in the first round who can contribute right away. Dallas likely will seek a corner in free agency and pick up a wide receiver with one of the two top picks. I have Mario Manningham going to Dallas, along with Menndal
Williams can make turnovers, but he can do little else. He's a major liability against the pass, and now is struggling against the run. They should look to deal him just on talent grounds. I agree with Mendenhall(I think I had him going to the Boys in my last mock), especially if Jones walks. Manningham...maybe. I think they'll try to replace Henry or Adams in round 1 now.
